Intervals can be described as Major (M), Minor (m), Perfect (P), Augmented (A), and Diminished (d).
Intervals come in various sizes: Unisons, Seconds, Thirds, Fourths, Fifths, Sixths, and Sevenths.
2nds, 3rds, 6ths, and 7ths can be found
as Major and Minor.Unisons, 4ths, 5ths, and Octaves are
Perfect.
If we
add a half step to a Major or Perfect interval it becomes
Augmented
If we rest a half step to a minor or Perfect interval it becomes
diminished
If we add a half step to a Major interval it becomes minor (and
viceversa)
We want our students to be able to use
any order when naming sounds. These games are very useful.
We recommend 2 games previous to interval
games:
Alice tone or
semitone (for
smaller children)
Distance
and Enharmonic's
fight (for older
children and adults)
